I do not have near the amount of receivers that Fluffy has but today I started working on a few for next years builds. These are three Beretta's that show the progression of work. Bottom has had the cosmoline removed. Middle one has just been sandblasted and the top one has just been pulled from its oil bath after a dip in the parkerizing soup. Now to buff it with some 0000 steel wool for the perfect finish.

Now for a question. I have some other receivers that will be worked on later this month. I would like to do one in a cold blue finish. Would it be best to do the bluing on a 'white' receiver or apply the bluing to a fresh reparked receiver? I am looking for something different as far as colour and durability. Any suggestions?

You can blue a fresh parked receiver but I'm not fan of bluing either way. It does look slightly better on a parked receiver, in my opinion.

Thanks, there have been a few Italian receivers that I have worked over and the 'original' finish was more like bluing than a parkerized finish.

I can only say that I've seen a few and I keep seeing park finish. Others mileage may vary.

You are more than likely seeing worn parkerizing, it can look somewhat like blueing . Durability wise ,parkerizing is always more durable than blueing
