whats the general opinion on saw cut cylinders? i know they were modified in ww2 to use up a contract of under size barrels. other that that, what benefits are there to having one? Are they best left to collectable/period correct rifles, or do they offer an advantage on a "working" rifle? value wise, are they any more valuable over a standard non cut cylinder? the '42 sa mixmaster import i inherited has one is why i ask.

Take this with a grain of salt, but I recall the benefit of a saw cut gas cylinder (for a "shooter" rifle) is that the saw cut allows the gas cylinder to be tightened down on the barrel splines which will help eliminate slop between the two parts without peening.
I don't believe saw-cut cylinders are any more valuable. If they were, people would be saw-cutting normal gas cylinders and selling them for
a premium price. I have a saw-cut on my shooter.
