Whats it take to disassemble a elevation knob? Thinking about picking up a group of worn knobs and trying to make some serviceable knobs out of a few of them
Thanks

I talked to Mike B , he told me it takes a special tool to disassemble them and replacement drums are impossible to find

Bill,
There was an article in an old GCA journal about taking them apart. You do need tools.I'll look it up and snap a pic of the Tool.

Can you send me a copy of that? I am curious how they use that tool and where it came from as I was never issued one. Sight needed repairs we went to the parts bin. The good old days, never with out the needed parts!

Those tool sets are of Danish origin. There is no comparable GI tool set.At one time someone was making new ones here as they were advertised on GB and e-bay.Maybe Standard Parts LLC not sure.

I use a small regular screw driver and a dental pick. For the windage I use a vise and a socket. It isn't easy but I seem to have success. Cracked drums are not found and I put them all on my hunting rifles. The cracked drums seem to still work fine.

If anyone here has some damaged knobs and the repair parts to fix the knobs. I will offer to repair them using my set of tools free of charge.
You only pay shipping to and fro. This offer only applies to my friends here at Battle Tested.
I can't furnish any parts like: the threaded insert on a windage knob or drums for elevation pinions. These are hard to locate.

The special tool you are looking for was made & sold by a machinist named Swartz in Ohio. I have one for sale for $25. You have to have an intact drum, because this is the part that breaks the most.

The inserts on the windage knobs are pretty hard to come by also.
Tony did you ever get that deal completed on the elevation and windage knobs done that we spoke about several years ago ?
