BM59 mags in M1A

I know you can mod a BM59 for M14 mags, but can a M14/M1A be modified for BM59 mags? It would be nice to have all my 7.62 rifles use the same mags.

I would guess the 59 mag is too long. I don't know for sure though, I know of nobody who's actually tried it.
