Adjustable Gas Plug Effect on Ballistics

Does an adjustable gas plug effect the ballistics of the bullet, or only safeguard the op rod?

For example, if one shot a heavy, hunting round from an M1 without an adjustable plug, and then shot another round with an adjustable plug (which is properly adjusted), how would the ballistics of the bullet change, if any?

Won't affect the ballistics. The bullet is long gone from the end of the barrel before the op rod even starts moving.
