All - I read a few months ago about some Don McCoy built 30-06 chambered M1's (3 to be exact) that were built / "tuned" (?) for 190 gr projectiles for 1,000 + yard shooting. As I've explored this hobby more and more, I began to wonder what makes an M1 a 1,000+ yard rifle using 190 gr projectiles? It seems that all the accuracy enhancements would be the same, whether doing them for an "unlimited" - type build in .308, for 600 yards or less, etc.
Is it the twist rate of the barrel? Or how the gas port is "tuned" (if that is even something that makes sense)? Or . . . ??
Thanks.
