I recall .270 and .243 barrels in the past, nowadays everybody is a purist!

Lothar Walther currently does M1 barrels in .270 Winchester, 9.63x62 Mauser, 7x64 Brenneke, and 8x57 IS along with the usual .30-06 and .308.

I have Garands in 9.3x62, .270, 6.5x55mm, .308 and .30-06.
There's a lot that's possible and don't let anyone discourage you.

I have 30-06 and .308 and that's good enough for me!
