Tim, I saw those today at Greg's table at OGCA show in Wilmington. He said to say hey to you. How do those gas tubes work on a miniG? Are there any benefits?

Benefit is that there's no mod needed to make it work with a scout rail. No mod to the rod or the rail. How much are they being sold for Bill?

Oh, it works GREAT!

Neat. Does that include the Ultimak scout rail? And whats the gas preasure like(Set up to handle 308 I assume). Does the adjustable gas plug fit or is it even needed? Wheels in my head are turning.

If I the Smith Muzzle brake can be fitted to this instead of the long BM59 I am going to have to give you a phone call. Looking at the BM59 Muzzle brake you could possibly cut it down to the same length as a Smith and copy their pattern of holes or create your own based on other Brakes then grind off the Bayonet mount and repark it....Not sure how much machine work that would take. A Smith Brake costs about 125 and a BM59 is about 80 so it may be worth it. Yup I am going to have to give you a call.

Smith can't fit. Nothing can fit except the old BM59 brakes. Bill asked me for the advantages, not the disadvantages.
You also cannot use a Garand gas lock.
This involves spending the money on the gas cylinder and the brake. I think that's somewhere around $200 on up.

Probably not worth it then but still neat.

Tim, I didn't notice the price as I wasn't interested. I'll ask Greg as he is going to call me regarding some project parts, probably be Tuesday. I don't know if you're interested but Greg has a heard of those Winig seconds. He usually gets 20-25 dollars apiece. I've gotten some really nice stocks from him.

Oh Mr. Wilson

Looks like the tube sets lower, how that effecting the bend in the op rod?
timshufflin
07-17-2011, 11:30 AM
Mr. Wilson, no bend. I have to bend it to be straight.

First off, great job Tim! Now I guess you have the MINI59/14.
Anyway, we are trying to get a run done right now of a muzzle break to go with the 59 gas cylinder. It will be similiar to the Smith break...but with the porting of the BM59E model break. The will be less than 4 inchs long. Would post a pic, but the prototype is back at the shop.
Hope this post is OK by Tim.

If there is no bend in the op rod on this setup, will an M14 stock configuration work on this rifle?

Muzzle breaks on the way....
I would like to get the shorter one ;)
timshufflin

The M14 still would not work Colter without some serious mods.

The short BM59 breaks are done very well. I am running one of the prototypes on my M14 mag fed rifle now.

Sent my rifle, a Standard Parts gas cylinder, original Beretta gas plug and front sight, and a trimmed down tricomp (it was demilled by cutting the tip, had no choice but to shorten it) off to Tim for Mini-G conversion with this gas system. I'm especially liking the idea of a straight op rod and like the way it looks, too. Can't wait to see how it comes out!
BTW, if anyone's looking for a BM59 spindle valve, I have one left over from this. Unfortunately, no other unused parts survived the demiller's shear.

Mike,
PM returned. Unfortunately, nothing left but the spindle valve and its nut.

Received my Mini-G this afternoon, and just before sundown, the clouds broke and gave me a few minutes of good light for photos.
This rifle started out having been bastardized by the installation (and I don't think all that skilled installation) of an Italian .308 conversion. It's still got a little Italian in it in the form of a BM gas system (more like a BM62 than a BM59 IMO) and the oprod from the Italian conversion stamped "7.62mm". The muzzle device is a demilled BM59 tricomp that I shortened and removed the bayonet lug from.
Tim's work kept this rifle from ending its days as useless!
