Not sure if this is the correct place to post this but I would like your guys opinion on what I am planning on mounting on my Ultimak equipped Mini-g. I originally planned on running a Aimpoint PRO mounted with low ring so I could Co-witness the Irons. I have a lot of Experience with Aimpoints and like them but I have never been good with Distance compared to Irons. I was looking at about $425 on the Aimpoint set up.

I may want to Hunt occasionally so I Read up on Scout Scopes. I really like the low mounted Burris and Leupold Scout scopes but I hate to give up CQB. I am also trying to avoid running one of those cheek pad set ups.

So after some research I think I am going to go with this scope http://www.burrisoptics.com/special1.html#2x

mounted with these rings low 1/4 http://www.burrisoptics.com/xtrrings.html

this Red dot http://www.burrisoptics.com/fastfire.html

Mounted on a angled mount http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/Daniel-Defense-Tactical-Rail-Light-Mount-1-O-clock-p/dd-15000.htm

I haven't been able to find anyone running this set up on a Garand/m1a but I think it could be perfect. Not as durable as an Aimpoint. Whole set up is about $550 which I think is reasonable and I should be able to get away with not using a Cheek riser. Only Issue I can foresee is fitting that red dot mount under the scope with such low rings(I can probably grind it down a little to make it fit. Also the field of view on the red dot is going to be limited with it so far forward on the rifle but it should be fine for 25 meters and less. I figure I could zero the red dot at 25 meters and the Scope at 300.

This thread has a set up on AR15 that is pretty close to what I am thinking. The rings are taller obviously but it's a good reference. http://www.ar15.com/archive/topic.html?b=3&f=18&t=480615

I would love to here opinions good or bad.

http://m14.ca/ makes a rear red dot mount for the M1A with a built in peep site. If the mount will work on the M1 and doesn't interfere with en-bloc loading, it would be very easy to convert this mount to a sort of "look through" rings to view the scout scope up front. Just a rough idea in my head but it may be doable. Stu

Here is a pic of the prototype red dot mount. Looks like it'll clear on the M1. Stu

I like it. My only issue would be the height. That looks like a chin weld instead of cheak.

No doubt with the red dot but should be good through the scope.
