View Full Version : CMP Barrelled Receivers: general condition?

I bought 2 of the barreled receivers that the CMP had a few years ago. They were the $85 ones, and since I was buying for the receivers only I didn't really pay attention to the bore when I selected them. And of course things got delayed so I put them in the safe and forgot about them.

FF to now and I have a side project that requires a barrel blank with a .308 bore (for the inquisitive, it's a rebarrel of a Remington 580 to shoot 7.62x25). I only need 16", so I thought about using one of the barrels from one of the BR's. I would be cutting off the chamber section anyway; the question I have regards the general condition of the bores. Have these barrels proved to be usable with some work, or are they completely shot out? I realize that I won't really know until I get the barrels dismounted (or Tim does - at least one of these is slated for a tanker/BM59 project), but I'm asking in more general terms. If it's doable I'll hang tight; if it's a lost cause I'll keep searching for a cheap .308 blank for my project.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

I purchased several of the 125. ones and a few of the barrels were very bad inside and with suggestions here I used Kroil and they look great now. Good luck

I bought four of them, three had good barrels one did not. I still have the one with the bad barrel and plan to use it for an upcoming build with one of the NOS SA barrels from last year.

The one's demilled to 15" are a killer - under $10, but you need to permanently attach a flash hider/comp. I swear the ATF is [expletive deleted].

Although, if I silver soldered on a bm59 tri-comp...

I'm encouraged. I might just need to borrow my buddy's tools and break these apart and take a look. Now if I can clear a way to the safe...
