Any one know of a site that has good pics of the differences between the different manufacturers? I've got a WRA butt plate to trade for an IHC but I wouldn't know one if it bit me in the a$$.
Thanks
Jon

There arent any sites that I know of.
I used to have some pics on my computer but lost them to a crash. Cant say they were correct anyway as the more I think I know the more I find out I'm wrong

What about Babcock's book?

My copy of Babcock's book is out on loan. My tractor gun came with a Winnie butt plate and I'd like to trade it for an IHC but I'm not sure what they look like.

Jon,

The following is what I've read from some of the people I consider to be experts. My interpretation of what I've read could be in error!

My understanding is that IHC buttplates have 1) a pronounced raised edge of the checkering much like the Winchesters 2) a round trap door plunger and 3) a rounded edge on the inside of the thumb indention where you have to put your thumb to get the door open (you have to open the trap door to see the rounded edge).

Raised edge and round plunger:

IHC buttplate - I think - note the rounded edge line of the metal in the thumb indentation

Non-IHC buttplate - I think - note the staight edge in the same area

I hope this helps.

If any IHC experts see this and think I've got it wrong then please correct me. I want to know what is right.

Now either I can scare up the rest of the parts to go with it or give it up to Jon?

Is this one as well? It currently resides on my 5.62 HRA.

Would an HRA and IHC be the same if both were made by Kileen?

Oh, the Old Money Pit. Actually, I had it appraised by Mr. Angott and he felt it was worth more than I had into it so I'm over the sticker shock.

I know we're veering off topic, but I can't imagine Sean valuing a Winchester over $75-85.......

Jon,

I checked my original 4.66 HRA from "Mac" MacCollums collection that is supposed to be original according to Duff. The buttplate on it doesn't look like the ones I'm calling IHC. I just checked my two collector grade IHC's (with CMP certs) and both of them have what I have been calling an IHC buttplate.

I looked in Babcock's book and he doesn't picture any IHC butt plates but does show a couple of HRA plates. Both of the pictures of the HRA's are with the door closed. One picture is of the back and it looks to be straight in that area not rounded like the IHC's.

Wayne,
Could you post a pic or two or three of the HRA's for educational purposes?
Thanks

Here's a few pictures of a HRA and an IHC buttplate.

The one in the top of each picture came off "Mac's" 4.66 HRA and the bottom one in each picture is from a 5.2 IHC Gap Letter - CMP Collector grade.

Front with doors open:

Backs with doors open:

Backs with doors closed:

The thumb indention on the HRA is different from the IHC. Its shape both front and back look different to me.

Hope this helps.

Tony Giacobbe has a lot of parts, from the early 50's, still in the brown paper wrappings. They are from quite a few different sub-contractors. I would not be surprised one bit if buttplates are amongst the sub-contracted out items. Bill Ricca would know for sure. Stu
