Had a great Day shooting My 1917,finally had it dialed in,and then it exploded!!!Pieces were everywhere, and the blood was gushing.I found most of the parts, had to go get metal pulled out of My face and they just called me to come back for X-rays.Glasses stopped shrapnel, but one piece almost came through..pics don't show hole very well..:(

Case ruptured, and blew the floorplate out and bent it.The extractor shattered and I'm guessing that was the shrapnel came from.Bolt welded in place. The funniest part is that I have an MRI scheduled Tomorrow for My Back and They called Me today and asked if I had any metal inside Me....well,now I do!!LOL

Reloads, or factory round???
At least the eye-pro saved your MK1 optics from potential damage!
Hell, after seeing this and the very impressive kaboom on CMP last week, I'm almost hesitant to pull the trigger on any of my mil-surps again.

Glad you came through this alright and sorry about the rifle letting go like that. Spookie when it comes on you like that as the 1917 is one of the strongest action available. Makes one wonder but heck we just keep on going. I am curious about the ammo you were using. Was this a CMP/DCM rifle?

CMP Rifle.Mild reloads that I've used for Years. After examination it looks like the case was crushed in,but I don't recall resistance.

Holy Crap! Glad your OK and didn't lose an eye. Just remember, chicks dig scars!

BTW - It's hard to tell sometimes how hard/easy a 1917 is feeding with that cock-on-closing bullshit.

Tim,it says"GOTT MIT UNS",which is "God with us"in German.I also have a German Rifle acceptance proof(The Eagle)with the Numbers 777 for completion in the Lord, and then it just mingles into other Tattoos that I had done such as roses and spider webs. :)

DAMAGE! Hump!

Glad you're ok brother. I just read the other thread and I think you've found the problem! I know what it feels like when a weapon comes apart on you! I escaped without blood loss, but did ruin a nice handgun and badly soiled a pair of "Fruit o the Looms" along with a pair of Wrangler Jeans!

Glad you are ok PH. I had a 1911 slide crack and part of it blow-back and hit me in the face years ago, I'd like to think safety glasses saved my butt that day. Live and learn brutha.

That is scary,...and a true sober reminder that things do happen.

Has anyone every had an incident of a factory round or a surplus round like HXP do this?

Nope, never heard of one either.

I am doing my research into reloading equipment, and they unforeseeable accidents are spooking me.

Just one more risk in my life. Once again, happy the OP is seeing in 3D.
