I've done worse rookie mistakes than that. How's chasing the rear sights all over the place to find zero and then after about 50 rounds the front sight falls off :)
Your tape theory sounds good so long as you know that tape thickness and I'm sure you do.
Glad to see I'm not the only one to do that! Another dumbass mistake I made once was on an early restoration with a numbered gas cylinder. I had got one of those 1941 dated front sight seals to put on the screw. After seating it in place I realized I never tightened the damn screw first, just "snugged it down". Those seals can not be removed without destroying them, so I ordered another. Got a few spares as well.Quote:
