The idea of that question is to get people thinking about it before they start talking about it. All too many times you get people that have "romanticized" the idea of fighting for one thing or another but have never thought about if it's worth killing/dying over. When you ask someone who they are going to shoot, usually get get this blank stare that means they've never thought of any type of fight past talking.....
Yaaaaaaawn.
My idea of “when SHTF” is when government strips us of the 2nd Amendment! I’ve given this subject a great deal of thought throughout the years. I can remember the first time I ever heard of such a notion. I’ve had a “love affair” with firearms as long as I can remember. I grew up in a little town of about 3500 people and as a kid of 9 or 10 years I’d go to the local OTASCO store. (Oklahoma Tire and Supply Company) and ogle all the rifles and shotguns in the rack. I’d daydream of owning these guns and going quail hunting etc. Finally when the manager had enough of my presence and TELL me to leave I’d go around the corner to a locally owned furniture / junk / pawn store and do the same.
One day while I was at the old junk store I noticed a sign that read “When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns!”
I was terrified! I just KNEW that before I was old enough to get my first “single shot 22 rifle or break over .410 shotgun” that guns would be outlawed! Thankfully this hasn’t been the case!
Over the years though we’ve seen our firearm rights whittled away at and I’ve worried about them just the same. Gun control has a history and what I’ve seen of it frightens me! 1930’s Germany is the example I think of the most! People thought it was a good idea (I guess), but I venture to say if you were to ask a Jewish holocaust survivor they may disagree. What people don’t think about is that type of thing can and DOES happen and with the wrong crowd in power and the people unable to defend themselves……..I shudder to think of the consequences!
20 + years ago, when I had two little kids and a wife to provide for, if they’d demanded surrender of my guns or face felony charges, I would have complied. Today….well I’m not saying that I WOULD NOT comply, but what I AM saying is they run a much greater risk of not receiving a friendly reception. So that’s my definition of when SHTF.
I still love my 2nd Amendment Rights as much as ever and the older I get the more “set in my ways” I become.
I suppose I said all this in order to say, when SHTF, I MAY WELL REPLY
