I need some help from the experts. I know there is usually a gap between the front handguard and the gas cylinder and the handguard is a little loose. My rifle with the new production stock seems o have a larger gap than it should. the handguard moves around a lot. I tried 3 cylinder locks and they all stop about the same place. anybody have any suggestions as to fix this problem. This is what it looks like.

Looks just fine to me. I've read a zillion posts about guys worrying about timing on the gas cylinder locks. I've never once paid it any mind. I'm sure I'll get roasted, but I wouldn't worry about it at all.
I have no issue with it at all.
ok thats good enough for me. the only reason I even was concerned about it was my other rifle with a sa stock the gap is very small.
Just make sure the hole in the gas cylinder lines up with the hole in the barrel. If it does, run with it.

Yeah I do not have that tool. I did try the lock screw from the other rifle that does have the gap about the thickness of a buisness card and it stopped at about the same place. So would that mean it's the barrel splines that are the problem?

All the years I have been messing around with Garands I have never had one that didnt function becuase the gas port didnt align properly, if fact I never even check the port. I'm wondering if that isnt another internet myth?
The gas port aligns just fine The rifle functions perfectly I was just looking to close that gap a little

Yeah I ordered another lock yesterday so I'll see what happens with that. If it doesnt solve it then I'll just live with it.
It's a battle rifle. It was made to shoot holes in enemy soldiers. You're not building a piano or doing open heart surgery. Don't worry about it.Quote:
