There should be no greater danger posting here than posting on other forums. Some see danger on all forums, some see no danger on any forum.
"ANY" danger....? maybe......
Not likely....the paranoids are worried about people coming back and saying it's a stolen rifle, used in a crime, etc, etc....
I've always felt if I bought it legally, have proof, and don't plan on committing any atrocities(and leaving the ser # behind as evidence)no big deal....
I've posted every serial number of every rifle I've ever owned on every board I've ever visited and have never had a problem. they mythical "someone will file a police report that that is their rifle" is laughable, at best
ok then,i guess that answers it .
Not too worried about the CMP rifles. There are some private sales that could present a problem. That is why I insist on copying the persons ID such as drivers lic and having a written bill of sale with each transaction.
A person would have to be a fool to file a false claim without documentation. In fact the cops will most likely demand proof of ownership prior to an investigation.
I used to have access to all kinds of information data bases, but now I am just a tax payer.
Here in the Peoples Republic of Maryland you will be prosecuted!
The application which you are filing is being filed under oath. § 9-501. False statement - To law enforcement officer.
(a) Prohibited.- A person may not make, or cause to be made, a statement, report, or complaint that the person knows to be false as a whole or in material part, to a law enforcement officer of the State, of a county, municipal corporation, or other political subdivision of the State, or of the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Police with intent to deceive and to cause an investigation or other action to be taken as a result of the statement, report, or complaint.
(b) Penalty.- A person who violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and on conviction is subject to imprisonment not exceeding 6 months or a fine not exceeding $500 or both.

OK, about 20 something years ago, NYC passed an "Assault Weapons Ban". They offered amnesty and there was a period you were allowed to "register" your assault weapon to be "grandfathered" in. Well, guess what they did with the list? They used it to confiscate weapons. Trust no one, believe me. The problem is that most folks think in a normal fashion. The anti's are not normal. They are zealots, and the less they know about my business the better. I wouldn't be a bit surprised if the "anti's" have someone assigned to monitor and record firearms info from forums.
And now is going to come the "don't live in New York" business. Elmer Balance lives in Devine Texas and look what they did to him. Stu
Don't be surprised if they don't have someone checking ALL these gun forums, looking for foolish statements.
Like doing harm or worse.
Anytime I post pictures of my rifles serial number(s) I just put my tinfoil hat on and its all good. :)
