Who makes a good one that will fit a Bushmaster without modification? The CMMG kit says to "use a rounded-style hammer, because notched hammers can cause function issues." Since I have no idea what the difference is in hammer types, I am looking for a drop in kit that works reliably. It would be nice to shoot my AR without chasing my brass across the back of the firing line.
I have a Ciener kit and use black dog machine mags. Spikes, CMMG, etc are variations of the Ciener. I believe Spikes has stainless parts for better operation. I have a notched hammer IIRC and have not had issues. I did polish the feed ramp with polishing rouge to prevent FTF/stovepipes.
I have a couple of the usgi conversion kits, they work good in my rifles.
Are those still availble? They should work great with the 1:12 twist in my Retro AR'sQuote:

DPMS makes the rounded-type hammers, and IIRC, Rock River makes the notched profile.
some kits work w/ the notched hammers, while others wont.
if the kit recommends the rounded, I'd go with that

drop ins are cheap and fun to shoot,
but if accuracy is important, the optimal twist for most .22 is 1/16
Dedicated uppers are 1:16 but with drop in conversions you are limited. Heck there are just plinkers anyway
yeah, Tac Sol has some nice uppers -
one that basically mimics the M4, and another that has a Hogue free-float tube that's really light.
(these require the DPMS hammer, and work better w/ a lighter hammer spring)
they are a little spendy, but accurate enough to compete.
just can't load the mags quick enough [dough]
Have you tried the BDM drum? I've only seen the product demo online but it seems to work. It's juskt a little pricey for me.
If memory serves me, I think that my AR has a 1:8 twist. Bad for stabilizing .22 I assume?
