I have a couple of rack grands from CMP due in tomorrow. I,m wondering what they will be like. At least 1 of them will go to Shuff's for a BM59 conversion.

You will love the BM59

One of the 2 showed up yesterday. About what I expected, but with a lot more pitting on the receiver. Hopefully the other 1 has a nicer receiver.
Both rack grades I got were typical condition compared to what I've read about others getting. Heavily pitted receivers, and rough looking but functional rifles. I'll probably send in a SA M1 I already had for the BM59 conversion. I'll save the worst of the RGs for a beater gun. I might do a >308 conversion on the other, or maybe another BM59. I have 2 really nice BM59 kits and a JRA BM59. The JRA has some typical issues, but it shoots and has good accuracy.
What's with the CMP? They've cut down to only RGs, some of which are rather nice and others are pitted to hell - which makes e afraid to order! Last FG order I got (years ago) was all heavily pitted refinished receivers - I almost sent them back, and should have. I'd go to the SS, but it's closed indefinitely!

Eli, I think the days of the glory days of the cmp are over. I do have a few nice rifles to show for it but I don't think I would take the chance now.

Galils?....

Ah, for the olden golden days of the CMP Greek M1 returns. Hard to believe that people are paying even more bucks now for pitted trash. If and when Service Grade M1s show again, they will be well north of a kilobuck. And then maybe with "just a bit of pitting below the wood line"??? Sheesh! Well, it was fun while it lasted, sound taps, it's over.
Alcohol is the means by which those who are truly intelligent put up with people who merely think they are.
Stuff like that. Smaller, lighter, less expensive to shoot - but about as costly as a BM59.
The 'Expert Grade' is the new Service Grade, complete with new stock and barrel. Buy the rifle for $1150, sell the stock for $150+ and the barrel for $300, the 'parts kit' for $500+ and you're into your nice receiver for $200 or less. Sucks, but it's what I'll probably end up doing in the future.
