I have been waiting to mount the sights but think I will go with the scope mount as I will need to see what the heck I am shooting at. I did some research on the sniper rifle and found the majority still have their front sights. I have an A4 bolt so I am waiting for the non drilled scope mount.

Are you getting a S&K mount ? If so, you have to remove the hand guard ring from the barrel. The front part of the mount attaches to band that goes around the barrel in place of the hand guard ring. Also you have to remove about 1/4" of wood from the hand guard to make it fit next to the mount.

Yes I am going to use that mount. I did not want to alter anything when I mounted a scope but heck ,it is obvious the rifle is a drill rifle restored to service so I guess it will make no real difference what I do to the wood.
    Thanks

I think that is a fine looking rifle. I have an 03A3 and it amazes me how much more recoil it has than a Garand with the exact same ammo.

One purty rifle you got there. I have an A3 that was sporterized way back in the 50's that I have been wanting to do like this. Still parked but has been drilled for the scope mounts. I thought that to remove the front sight you just needed to drift out the cross pin and knock it off, mine was like that when I got it. So take what I say with a grain of salt. this project may just have nudged me into doing it. Good luck with her!

I got the drift pin out but I could not budge the sight base no matter how tried. So instead of damaging something, i just left the sight base on and just removed the sight blade.
