    Pro's and Con's of going, or not going with, the BM59 gas cylinder?

    What are the pro's and con's of going with or not going with the BM59 gas cylinder?

    I see lots of them in the Mini-G picture thread, but can't for the life of me find many reasons why except

    1. Looks
    2. The Ultimak rail doesn't require extra work to install (which is negligible since the $$ saved to have it installed ends up being spent on the BM59 gas cylinder).
    3. Different muzzle devices can be used if this part gets threaded https://www.standardpartsllc.com/pro...&idcategory=26

    Is there anything else?

    What would the cons be? Are there even more parts that need to be bought to make it work?

    The biggest pro is you get the gas cylinder and the brake for not much more then just the cost of most brakes and you don't have to modify anything for scout rails. The con is that you are limited to a drop down brake with the 59 cylinder.

    As I understand it using the Ultimak with a standard gas cylinder requires shaving the oprod as well, not just modifying the ultimak. This was the clincher for me.

    Wouldn't a pro being the op rod is less curved and straighter thus stronger.

    After thinking about it, I don't really want a muzzle brake and having a flash suppressor would just add length which goes against having a shorter barrel. I'll just stick with the non-BM59 parts

    The oprod is already so short on a G that is is very rigid.
