    Mauser Rear Sight Base Removal

Awhile back, had to use a propane torch to un solder the rear sight base on a barreled action. Is there any risk that it damaged the heat treat on the receiver ring? It was hot to the touch but didnÂ’t change colors.

Safe. They are soldered on to begin with.

I am not well versed in Mausers. I have re-barreled a couple nut that was years ago. Maybe someone else has a little more experience?

They used a soft solder on the front and rear sight bands so it won't take much to get it flowing

There's a web page or few about re-barrelling those, but I don't recall the caliber restrictions.
I miss those being $39 + shipping from Navy Arms, complete with bayonet and pounds of cosmoline!

Is it German made or Turkish made? What caliber was it originally designed for? Most importantly what is the condition of the action?
